Young MIAS member spotlight: Maria Lucia Echandia

Welcome to the first edition of the Young MIAS Member Spotlight.

This month’s featured lawyer, born in Bogotá and raised in the city of Cartagena, Colombia (spoiler: Colombia will be a trend in this series), is currently an associate in Hogan Lovells’s Litigation, Arbitration, and Employment practice group. As an added hint, she is affectionately referred to by her friends and colleagues as “Machy.” For those of you who did not guess, the focus of this month’s Young MIAS Member Spotlight is none other than María Lucía Echandía!

María Lucía focuses her practice on International Commercial Arbitration and Investment Arbitration in various industries such as construction, energy and natural resources, among others. She has substantial experience in arbitration proceedings before the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICRD), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), as well as arbitrations under the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) rules and the Rules of the Arbitration and Conciliation Center of the Bogota Chamber of Commerce (CCB). Prior to joining Hogan Lovells, María Lucía was a senior associate at one of Colombia’s leading law firms, where her practice focused on international disputes. María Lucía is licensed to practice in Colombia, New York, and Florida.

In her free time, you can find María Lucía doing Pilates and trying out new restaurants.
