
Young MIAS Member Spotlight on Jorge Lopez Fung!
This month, we are thrilled to feature Jorge López Fung, a Senior Associate in the Miami office of Squire Patton Boggs and a member of the firm’s International Dispute Resolution practice. Jorge, a Peruvian-qualified lawyer from Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC), has been part of a number of renowned international arbitration practices and brings over 14 years of experience in dispute resolution. He holds an LL.M. with distinction in "Comparative and International Dispute Resolution" from Queen Mary University of London.
Jorge has participated in over 50 arbitrations across multiple jurisdictions, including Miami, New York, Washington, London, Santo Domingo, Santiago, and Lima. His experience spans disputes in commercial, energy, construction, mining, transportation, telecommunications, corporate and M&A matters, and government contracts. He has handled ad hoc arbitrations under the UNCITRAL rules and cases before ICSID, ICC, PCA, Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL), American Chamber of Commerce of Peru (AmCham Peru), and the Center for Arbitration and Dispute Resolution of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (CARC PUCP), among others. Further, Jorge has extensive experience in witness and expert examination, including legal, technical, and economic experts. He is also well-versed in emergency arbitration, dispute boards, and ex aequo et bono arbitration.

In addition to his work as counsel, Jorge serves as an arbitrator for multiple institutions, including CCL, AmCham Peru, CARC PUCP, and Ankawa International, among others. He is also a Professor at UPC and Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), where he has taught undergraduate (2021-2023) and postgraduate (2024) arbitration and dispute resolution courses. His academic background includes specializations in international arbitration from American University Washington College of Law and Universidad del Pacífico, as well as in administrative law (UPC) and energy management and supervision (PUCP). Due to his substantial efforts to be at the forefront of the profession, Jorge has been recognized by Chambers & Partners, Legal 500, and Leaders League for his expertise and strategic approach to complex cases.

As a co-founder of Arbitraje Alumni and Lima Very Young Arbitration Practitioners - LVYAP, he has served as president and an executive committee member for both organizations. He is also an active speaker at arbitration conferences and has published several academic papers in leading journals. What an impressive background!
Outside of work, Jorge enjoys watching football and tennis, binge-watching series, grilling asados with friends, and spending time with his family—especially playing with his son.
