Join Mr. Gary B. Born to examine the historical rise of international arbitration, review its current state and recent developments in the field, and conclude with a prognosis for the future of international arbitration. The lecture will discuss how and why international arbitration has been used in widely diverse cultures, regions and times, as well as the criticisms that have been made of some forms of arbitration in recent years. It will also explore the parallels between these criticisms and past criticisms of international law and adjudicatory mechanisms.
Gary Born is the chair of the International Arbitration Practice Group of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP. Mr. Born is widely regarded as the world's preeminent authority on international commercial arbitration and international litigation. He has been ranked for more than 20 years as one of the world's leading international arbitration advocates and the leading arbitration practitioner in London.
